SAG Awards 2010 Trend Alert: Side Swept Hair

Swept-to-the side hair took center stage at Saturday night’s 16th Annual Screen Actor’s Guild Awards.

A-listers, such as Penelope Cruz, Michelle Monaghan, Mariah Carey and Marion Cotillard ordered their hair on the side for the big night of actors awarding their own.

In some cases, the asymmetrical look was also functional. For presenter Michelle Monaghan, a pushed-to-the-side style allowed her stunning backless dress to be the star of the show.

Penelope Cruz, who was nominated for female actor in a supporting role for “Nine,” wore her highlighted tresses loose, wavy and tossed over one shoulder. Cruz’s “Nine” co-star Marion Cotillard did her sideways look in the form of a chic, old Hollywood-style chignon.

“Precious” star Mariah Carey tucked one side of her shiny golden tresses behind her ear and let the bulk of it spill over one shoulder.

Each of the actresses also wore robust waves, a fresh update to the smooth, side parted hair — a la Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock at the People’s Choice Awards — we’ve been seeing so much of lately.
